The incident took place around 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, when an Orange resident saw Corey Roberts, 28, of Monroe, take a previously-delivered package from her neighbor’s front porch, said Orange Police.

The resident was able to relay a suspect and vehicle description to officers who, in turn, observed Robert's vehicle in the area.

Robert's attempted to elude police officers by first driving away and ignoring officers’ attempts to get him to stop, then by abandoning his vehicle in a parking lot and attempting to flee on foot, Orange Police said.

Coordinated efforts by the Patrol and Investigative Service Divisions allowed officers to close in on the Roberts position, and he gave himself up shortly thereafter.

Roberts was taken into custody and charged with operating a vehicle without insurance, driving without a license, reckless driving, engaging police in a pursuit, driving an unregistered vehicle, misuse of a marker plate, criminal trespass, and four counts of larceny.

Officers seized his vehicle from the parking lot of a nearby business. Inside the vehicle, they found more packages and suspected stolen items.

At this time, it appears Roberts may have targeted the Dogwood Road and surrounding residential areas.

At the time of his arrest, he was operating a blue 2008 Chevy Cobalt.

Police are asking residents if they did not receive a package that your carrier or seller is claiming was delivered, since Dec. 17, to contact police directly at 203-891-2130.
